I have Roth and Traditional IRA accounts and I exceeded my Roth limit, so I wanted to transfer some funds into my Traditional IRA account. Does anybody know if it is at all possible and if yes, what is the right way to do it?

With the way the economy currently is did you loose any money from your IRAs ? I’m wondering because I was going to start one, but I don’t want to lose any money!

I have Roth IRA CD’s at a bank earning an attractive 5 year rate with a one time no bank penalty withdrawal clause. I opened these accounts in ’06 & ’07 by transferring and rolling over Roth IRA accounts from other banks originally opened over 5 years.
My understanding is I will not have to pay tax on withdrawn Roth IRA gains provided the withdrawal is done 5 or more years after opening. My question is, if I withdraw now will my gains be taxable based on the date of the current Roth accounts or not based on the original date of the Roth accounts?

Does this even matter? All the money was hard earned, would they think nothing of it as I could have gotten it from my parents/they did it for me?

I’m 27, husband is 34. We’re both going to start IRAs. I don’t know if it’s better to save more now and put less into IRAS. We are halfway to reaching the goal amount for our emergency savings. We intend on going to grad school also. But, we are behind with retirement, so I wasn’t sure if I should beef that up now and be okay with saving less each month.

For IRAs, ETRADE says there are no account fees and no minimums. The website also seems to indicate there are no charges for trading with money within the IRA. So how does ETRADE make money doing this?

I am 60 years old and have $30,000 in an IRA CD which will mature in August 2010. At that time, I am thinking about converting it to a ROTH IRA CD and paying the taxes on the $30,000 (it’s all pre-tax money). If I convert it to a ROTH, will I have to wait five years before I can withdraw any money from it? I’m talking about principal, not any subsequent earnings.

How old do my kids have to be?

What’s the limit?

What’s the limit on a ROTH contribution for an adult making less than 110k/year? I heard someone say it was going to go up to $7000

I don’t think we’ll be able to put the maximum yearly contribution in them or anything like that, but I’m really leaning towards opening Roth IRAs for my husband and I at our local credit union. Is there anything you wish you had considered before opening a retirement account? Would you go with Roth or Traditional?

For Required Minimum Distribution, Can I use only one traditional IRA instead of all several traditional IRAs? Thank you very much for answering the question.
